All our orthodontists are board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics that requires the completion of written and clinical examinations. A Board Certified Orthodontist has reached this level of achievement and this represents an orthodontist’s personal and public commitment to the standards of specialty practice and lifelong learning.
Dr. Sandra Khong Tai
Dr Sandra Khong Tai received her graduate training in Orthodontics at the University of Minnesota. She is a practicing Specialist in Orthodontics in Vancouver, Canada and Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of British Columbia, as well as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of the Pacific. Dr Sandra Tai is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. She has been an Invisalign certified orthodontist since 2000 and is currently an Invisalign Diamond Plus Provider who has treated thousands of cases with Invisalign clear aligners. Dr Tai is the author of the textbook “Clear Aligner Technique”. (Quintessence Publishing 2018) which has been translated into 12 languages. She has authored a chapter on Clear Aligner Treatment in the 7th edition of Graber’s Orthodontics (Elsevier 2021). She is a member of the Editorial Board of Seminars in Orthodontics, the Journal of Aligner Orthodontics and a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, Journal of Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research and APOS Trends in Orthodontics. She is one of the pioneer testing doctors on Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement and Invisalign First appliance.
Dr. Charlene Tai Loh
Dr. Charlene T. Loh grew up observing her parents’ love of dentistry and their incredible ability to impact people’s health and lives. She grew up in Richmond, BC, where she attended Richmond Christian School and graduated from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Richmond High School. After studying pharmaceutical sciences at the University of British Columbia, she went on to start her own path to a career in dentistry, earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at UBC. During dental school, Dr. Charlene found that she particularly loved working with her orthodontic patients, helping kids grow and develop well, and giving them smiles they were proud of. She decided to pursue advanced training to become a certified specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, and completed a residency and Master of Science degree at the University of Minnesota.Dr. Charlene has experience using Invisalign, 3-D imaging, Temporary Anchorage Devices, soft tissue lasers, and accelerated tooth movement techniques. She has treated cases involving both early interceptive and comprehensive treatment, growth modification, impacted teeth, orthognathic surgery, craniofacial anomalies, and preparation for restorative dentistry.When she is not seeing patients in clinic, Dr. Loh enjoys traveling around the world, playing violin and piano, and dabbling in various forms of art such as painting and dance. She also teaches dental students at UBC and continues to learn about the latest research and advancements in orthodontics by being part of professional dental organizations and attending dental conferences. The part of her job that she loves the most is caring for her patients and helping them to have healthy smiles that they love!
Dr. Michael Yang
Dr. Michael Yang was born in Taiwan and immigrated at a young age to Vancouver. He attended Lord Byng Secondary School, where he was selected into the visual arts mini-school program. He developed a particular interest in facial aesthetics, and eventually found his way into the profession of orthodontics. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, Dr. Yang received his specialty training at the University of Illinois Chicago, where the first ever orthodontic residency program in North America was established. From there he earned the Certificate in Orthodontics and the Master of Science. His Master’s Thesis on tooth movement and bone remodelling was published in the Journal of Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research. In Chicago—a major hub of craniofacial surgery—Dr. Yang gained extensive experience in surgical orthodontics involving jaw surgery, mini-screw expansion, and late growth modification, along with Invisalign and other non-surgical treatment. Dr. Yang is both a certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is licensed to practise in both the US and Canada.
Dr. Yang enjoys learning languages and different cultures. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese Hokkien, and can also converse in Cantonese and Spanish. In his spare time, he is usually dragged along by his wife travelling and exploring every corner of the world. At work, Dr. Yang strives to create the best facial balance and harmony in every patient, and truly enjoys helping patients see the best version of themselves.
